There are mainly three types of tenses in English:

  1. Past tense: used to indicate actions or states that already happened or existed in the past, for example, "I walked to the store last night".

  2. Present tense: used to indicate actions or states that are happening now or repeatedly in the present, for example, "I am writing a letter now" or "I play tennis every Saturday".

  3. Future tense: used to indicate actions or states that will happen in the future, for example, "I will go to Paris next month".

Each of these tenses has several forms and uses, such as simple, progressive, perfect or perfect progressive forms. The choice of tense depends on the context, the intention of the speaker, and the grammatical structure of the sentence.
